Scathenly Brilliant Ideas

When My creativity level runs low as it sometimes does, I dig out an old movie, THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS. The story lines revolves around the misadventures of two teenagers in an all girls catholic school. Haley Mills stars as the mischievous high spirited girl who is constantly matching wits with Mother Superior, Rosalind Russell. Whenever Haley Mills exclaims "I have a scathingly brilliant idea: the fun is about to begin. Her exploits range from filling the sugar bowls with powdered soap flakes to covering her cousin in plaster to "immortalize" her. All exploits end up disastrously but lots of fun. This was my daughter's favorite movie as a child and probably remains the same. She and I have watched this movie thousands of times. When things get dull it is not uncommon to hear from either my daughter or me, "I've got a scathingly brilliant idea" and we know the fun is about to start.

Scathingly brilliant ideas come in several categories:
Fun things to do
Fun places to go
Fun things to create
Fun practical jokes
Fun adventures
Fun ways to help others
Obviously, "fun" is the key word to scathingly brilliant ideas. The next important component of SBIs is friends. There are no solitary activities. One person may perform the activity but eventually someone else will be involved. The more the merrier.

Here are some ideas for SBIs.
1. Birthdays are so common, so ordinary. Why not have a half year birthday party? Half a cake with half burned candles and half the gift.
2. Join a community playhouse.
3. Take a mini vacation every week. Walk in the park eating popcorn or visit a local museum.
4. Call the cancer ward of your local hospital. Ask the nurse on duty for the name of someone who would enjoy a balloon bouquet. Then send it.
5. Hold a monthly party for friends. Each month change the theme for the party. Game Night, Wine glass painting party, Wine tasting party, Girls Rule party, Ice skating party, Bingo party, squirt gun party or Costume party. There are lots of themes to go with the costume party.
6. Go to a punk rock concert. Wear appropriate costume and talk "Hip".
7. Take a mule down the Grand Canyon.
8. Surprise a friend. Arrange for a mud bath for two.
9. Wear a Groucho nose and glasses while driving.
10. Walk around the park blowing bubbles.

What scathingly brilliant ideas have you come up with lately? Here are a few of the ones I am working on myself. Presently I am training for the MS Mud Run, searching for crazy items to fill the frog Easter basket I bought for my 84 year old father, becoming a Genealogist and driving my boyfriend crazy. The last one isn't on purpose. It just seems to happen. He doesn't seem to mind. He keeps coming back for more.
